The station was opened as
South Tottenham & Stamford Hill [1]
in 1871 by the Tottenham & Hampstead Junction Railway. The station was renamed
South Tottenham in 1949. For a time the station was the terminus for Midland Railway services until the opening of the Tottenham & Forest Gate Line.
